Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV航拍機) has been used widely for data capture.
Photo and video captured by camera from UAV are the most effective way to
display features or objects from side distance and inaccessible area. This will
prevent surveyors working under difficult and dangerous area, which will reduce
the costing on labour and enhance the efficiency of productivity. Engineering
Surveyors could discover more reality to stakeholders from geospatial
perspective (e.g. 3D point cloud model for BIM, or structure inspection without
With a visual camera, site inspection and surveying by UAV
becoming more cost effective and efficiency. Furthermore, by using a thermal
camera, imagery display features such as crack on façade and water leaking by
heat signature can be well defined and anticipate potential major degradations.
With collision tolerant technology, difficult environment such as underground
or confined space, box culvert, and high-rise utility plant could now be
assessable and inspectable. This is a new era of surveying inspection.
Language: Cantonese (supplemented with English Terms)
Speaker: Sr LAM Lit Yin
Sr LAM Lit Yin is the General Manager of D-Reality Consultancy
Limited. He would like to implement photogrammetry and laser scanning to
ordinary projects in order to accelerate the pace of land and engineering
surveying and enrich the surveying field. He would share experience of applying
photogrammetry technique into various projects and how the technology could
integrate with BIM. Sr. LAM is also the Chairman of HKIES (The Hong Kong
Institution of Engineering Surveyors) since year 2008.
