Programme Highlights

Smart manufacturing has been defined as the fully-integrated, collaborative manufacturing systems that respond in real time to meet changing demands and conditions in the factory, in the supply network, and in customer needs. In this seminar, we would like to invite distinguished speakers from the industry to share their experience and knowhow with case study how to improve productivity through digitalization management.  We’re sure all participants could benefit from attending this seminar.

The captioned seminar held on 7 September 2019, was jointly organized by HKIE – MI Division, IET Hong Kong – MIE Section and Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, PolyU and well-attended by around 130 fellow engineers and industrial professionals at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Ir Dr Eric LIU, MI Division Chairman gave a welcome speech and stressed the importance of smart manufacturing in Hong Kong.  MI Division invited three distinguished speakers from the industry to share their experience in smart manufacturing. 

Dr Andrew YAN, Production Director of Wing King Tong Holding Limited and he shared his project of adopting new inspection optimization process technology for printing industry. Andrew mentioned how to turn data into useful information and achieve 6 sigma improvement in the printing process.  He also used this project to complete his Engineering Doctor in the PolyU.

Mr Robert YAN, Founding Partner of Rocket Data Technology.   In 2002, Robert returned to Hong Kong to assist family plastic business and implemented varies digital networking technologies.  He share his experience how to use Edge Computing and AI technologies in manufacturing to improve efficiency.

Dr Anthony LAM, Engineering and Product Integrity Manager, Asia Pacific, Hallmark Cards (HK) Limited.  Anthony is currently working for Hallmark over 25 years.   He highlighted how to improve productivity by means of Autonomous Digital Connectivity: An Empirical Study of Print Media Industry in China.

Finally, John CHOW, MIE Section Chairman of IET Hong Kong delivered the Closing Speech to thank all speakers and organizing committee to give full support to the seminar.  He hoped there will more collaboration between HKIE – MI Division in near future.

At the end of the seminar, Ir Peter SI, Deputy Chairman of MI Division chaired the panel discussion and invited Ir Dr Eric LIU, Professor Keith CHAN, John CHOW and all speakers to join the panel discussion.  The enthusiastic response from the floor proved the seminar is success.
