Chairman’s Message (Session 2024/2025)

It is my great honour to succeed our Immediate Past Chairman, Ir Dr Eric LIU, and be elected Chairman of the Manufacturing, Industrial & Systems (MIS) Division for Session 2024/2025. I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation for the dedicated individuals for their visionary leadership, tireless efforts and unwavering commitment that the MIS division has flourished and maintained its position as a preeminent forces in the engineering community. You have paved the way for our continued success!

The MIS Division is a long-established division of HKIE witnessing the evolution of Hong Kong industry and continuously provides an effective platform for engineers, experts and industrialists to exchange knowledge, share experiences and contribute to the engineering and industry development. Taking into account of Hong Kong’s social and economic situation and its unique strength, the HKSAR government has flagship the new industrial initiative namely “New Quality Productive Forces (NQPFs)” which will accelerate the formation of a new and balanced economic portfolio with Hong Kong’s advantages. We will play a pivotal role to propel this modern industrial initiative through collaborating with our relevant divisions under one roof of HKIE upcoming.

Looking ahead, the success of Hong Kong’s new industrialisation policy hinges on the active engagement and empowerment of Registered Professional Engineers (RPEs) across various industry sectors. RPE plays a vital role in supporting manufacturers from various engineering and technological perspectives up to the required professional standard. We will therefore advocate the equip of RPE in manufacturing enterprises for uplifting industry professionalism. Meanwhile, it is critical to uphold the highest standards of engineers’ competency through developing a new structured CPD curriculum in order to keep pace with industry need towards new industrialisation. With the continued introduction of the state-of-the-art technological concepts such as “Gamified Manufacturing”, “Microfactory”, etc. by us, it will certainly attract more young engineers to join us and prepare themselves to serve the new mode of industry in Hong Kong and be extended to the other Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities.

I sincere invite each and every one of you to join me in this journey and shape our new industry future to embrace the collaborative spirit that has been the hallmark of MIS division.
